Screaming Lobsters and Other Important Stories
Wall text by Leena-Maaretta Dixon

Stockholm based painter Mari Rantanen is presenting an exhibition titled: Screaming Lobsters and Other Important Stories, which will also include a wall text by Leena-Maaretta Dixon, a surrealistic poem-thriller which tells the story that the painting installation is partly based on. The installation deals with shared memory as Rantanen is visualizing a view parallel to that of Miss. Dixon’s poem, positioning the seemingly disparate art forms as comparable.
The painting installation is making memory visible while greeting a space in the gallery that holds the emotions as well as the visualized thoughts.
Formally Rantanen’s installation of paintings is comprised of a large wall painting and an installation of smaller paintings, arranged through out the gallery space, that build a narrative of their own through their abstract visual language.

Guillaume Cailleau

Flowed

Media artist Guillaume Cailleau will exhibit three site-specific film installations
that utilize various types of projection and film viewing devices. One
Installation will be installed in our underground WW-II bunker, and two will be
installed in the two freezers (video installation space).

The subject of Cailleau’s pieces is time, its relativity, interpretation and the logic of its flow reflected on through the media of water.. „Just as the river where I step is not the same, and is, so I am as I am not“ Heraclitus

Sculptors: Three Generations is an exhibition of four sculptors affiliated with the Unversität der Künste Berlin.
David Evison, the English sculptor has been Professor for sculpture at the Unversität der Künste Berlin since 1982. Karsten Konrad is among his former students who has made a name for himself through out Germany and internationally, and is now in the forefront of the Berlin sculpture scene.
Evison saw his role in Berlin as being one of teaching and furthering the sculpture scene here, by paying attention to the succeeding generations. Julius Dörner is the last of his students as he is prepared to retire on September 31st. Konrad will now take over Evison’s class as Gastprofessor at the UdK. Johannes Denda is Konrad‘s student.
This exhibition comes at an opportune time for Evison, as it marks his departure from teaching. Additionally, he is organizing a large exhibition of his ex-students who are among those who are actively making sculpture today. This will be at UdK Berlin from October 31 to January 7, 2011. At the same time he will have a solo exhibition his new work at the Galerie Wedding, titled ‚Evisonstatues‘ from October 29 to January 6, 2011.

Mit dem von Gott gegebenen geistlichen Segen, dem Lobpreis des Chorkonvents und mit der Anteilnahme und dem Dienst vieler Helfer wollen wir den Menschen in Nordkorea, die großes Leid zu tragen haben, Unterstützung schenken. Das Leben und die Liebe Jesu Christi sollen auf der ganzen Welt verbreitet werden: Der Stimme Gottes zu folgen, seinen Nächsten zu lieben und somit Gottes Werk zu tun.

Das Land ist seit 60 Jahren geteilt und die Wunden der Teilung noch nicht geheilt. Die unterschiedlichen Ideologien spitzen sich zu, doch wollen wir heute über diesen Aspekten stehen und unseren Landsleuten mit geistlicher und materieller Unterstützung helfen, für sie beten, daran gedenken, dass wir in dieser schweren Zeit mit Ihnen sein wollen. Der Herr wird gewiss über diese Hilfe erfreut sein und allen Besuchern seinen Segen schenken.

Wir danken dem Herrn, dass er durch den koreanischen Gemeindekonvents Berlin mit dem Benefizkonzert für Nordkorea sein Wirken zeigt. Wir danken dem Herrn, dass er uns Liebe in unserem Herzen geschenkt hat, mit der wir den Menschen in Nordkorea helfen können. Vor allem wollen wir mit diesem Benefizkonzert auch Jesus Christus preisen, der uns erlöst hat. Auch danken wir den Besuchern, die sich an diesem guten Werk beteiligen.

Aando Fine Art presents „in the mood for love“, the first extensive exhibition project of Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa.

„Choi is fascinated with the contradictions of the Real and the Fake, Seriousness and Bluffing, High and Low; he joyfully crosses the borders of all conventional values. His works consist of cheap ordinary, familiar plastic products from Korean daily culture often supplemented by the nick-knack from local markets of his exhibition sites.“

„Out of the Woods“ ist die zweite Einzelausstellung mit Werken von der New Yorker Künstlerin Kathleen Vance. In der Ausstellung wird Kathleen eine experimentelle Installation aus der Serie „Boundsticks“ und eine Auswahl von Zeichnungen aus dem Grunewald präsentieren. Die raumspezifische Installation wird den Betrachter in seiner Wahrnehmung und Erfahrungen mit der wilden Natur des Waldes einbeziehen, und Bezug auf Konzepte der Erhaltung der Umwelt nehmen. Ergänzend zu der Installation wird Frau Vance Zeichnungen präsentieren, zu welchen sie durch Details von Sammelstellen im Grunewald inspiriert wurden. Ihre komplexen Strichzeichnungen destillieren die Atmosphäre der Umgebung, von den Baumkronen bis zum Waldboden.

„In my work I distinguish forms that are indicative of growth and explore the variance between experiences of an authentic natural encounter vs. an inauthentic encounter. I look for the ways in which nature can be brought back into the course of one’s daily life. I am intrigued by areas where manicured nature is being reclaimed by the wild. With my installations I engage viewers with the experience of a space being overtaken by natural elements. I bring discarded particles from forestry floor together to be revivified in my constructions.“

Dada Post eröffnet die ‚Lachswanderung‘, eine Skulptureninstallation des Künstlers Doug Rathburn aus Paradise, Kalifornien, entstanden im Rahmen des Dada Post Atelierprogramms.

Dada Post befindet sich auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen Fischräucherei König in Berlin-Reinickendorf, die nach über hundert Jahren ihren Betrieb eingestellt hat und nun zu neuem Leben erwacht als Ort für Ausstellungen und Performances mit angeschlossenen Künstlerateliers.

Beim Umbaukonzept des Geländes wurde sowohl der Geschichte der ehemaligen Fischräucherei als auch den neuen Anforderungen der zeitgenössischen Kunst Rechnung getragen. Das Fabrikgelände ist unschwer an den großen Räucherschornsteinen zu erkennen, die als Referenz an die frühere industrielle Nutzung erhalten blieben.

Rathburns Skulpturen lassen einen ähnlichen Respekt für Erfahrungen mit der Vergangenheit von Orten, Dingen und Gegenständen erahnen. Der Künstler verwendet vornehmlich Fundstücke und schafft so Neues aus Altem. Der frühere Lebensgeist der Dinge reizt seine Imagination und erlaubt ihm, in den Dingen neue Möglichkeiten zu sehen.

Äusserlich betrachtet lässt sich der Bezug von Rathburns Fischskulpturen leicht herstellen zu dem Ausstellungsort in einer früheren Fischfabrik. Die Lachse sind dorthin zurückgekehrt, wo sie für den Markt verarbeitet wurden und werden jetzt von innen durch perforierten Stahl und Kupferhäute hindurch illuminiert. Dieses innere Licht in Doug Rathburns metallenem Fischschwarm ist eine Hommage an die Lebenskraft aller Lebewesen.

Dada Post welcomes Salmon Run, a sculpture installation by Artist in Residence:

Doug Rathbun from Paradise, California.

Dada Post is located in the former König Smoked Fish Factory (a more than one hundred year old business) in Berlin-Reinickendorf, which has been given a second life as an exhibition, performance, and studio spaces for artists.

In conceptualizing the redesign of the complex, both its history as a former smoked fish factory and the new demands of contemporary art were taken into consideration. The facility is easily recognized by its large smokestacks, which have been retained as a reference to the original commercial use of the site.

Rathbun’s sculptures embrace a similar respect for the past experiences of both places and things. In his use of found materials the artist creates something new from something old. The spirit of the former life in things triggers his imagination and allows him to see things with new possibilities.

On the surface, Rathbun’s fish sculpture installation exhibited at what used to be a smoked fish factory is easy to appreciate. The Salmon, which have returned to where they once came to market, are illuminated from within through perforated steel and copper skins. The internal light of Doug Rathbun’s school of metal fish pays homage to the life force of living creatures.

Die Ausstellung NO FOOD NO DRINK NO STICKY LOLLIES eröffnet am 17. September 2010 im ehemaligen Stadtbad Wedding.
Über einen open call wurden Künstler eingeladen sich mit dem Ort in seiner früheren Funktion als öffentliches Schwimmbad bis hin zu seiner Entwicklung zum neuen Kunststandort im Berliner Stadtteil Wedding zu beschäftigen. Aus den zahlreich eingegangenen Vorschlägen wurden die Arbeiten von 19 Künstlern aus den Ländern Dänemark, Deutschland, England, Frankreich, Italien und den USA für die Ausstellung ausgewählt.

Herbstmondnacht ist ein Musiktheaterstück, mit dem ein modernes Märchen aus Korea erzählt wird. Es handelt von den Lebensweisen und Bräuchen am Erntedankfest Hangawi, zu dem die Koreaner sich treffen, um den Naturgöttern zu danken und mit den Verstorbenen zu kommunizieren.

Herbstmondnacht bietet eine seltene Gelegenheit, das von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe anerkannte Pansori und die tief im Schamanismus verwurzelte Kultur Koreas in Deutschland zu sehen.

Korea Uncovered präsentiert Seo Jaehee als Hauptdarstellerin in ‚Herbstmondnacht – Eine Geschichte aus dem Land der Morgenstille‘ diesen September in Berlin.

Die Fotoausstellung ‚Mensch‘ mit Bildern aus Korea begleitet die Aufführung.

Giovanni Frazzetto was born and grew up in Sicily.  After high school   he moved to London to study science and then lived in Germany and   France. In 2008 he was awarded the John Kendrew Young Scientist Award   for his efforts to promote interdisciplinarity across science, art and   the humanities. His science and literary writings have appeared in   Nature, EMBOreports and more recently in SAND- Berlin’s English Literary Journal. He now lives between London and Berlin where he is   writing his first collection of stories entitled ‘In between   worlds’. 

Dada Post is an autonomous space for the production, display and discussion of current art. Foremost, we contemplate artistic expression from the standpoint of pure inspiration emanating from the source – the artist. Dada Post   was founded in 2008 on the initiative of Howard McCalebb, a sculptor   and active figure on the international art scene. It is located in the   in the Berlin-Reinickendorf district, in the former König Smoked Fish Factory complex. The one hundred year-old business was transformed into exhibition, performance, and studio spaces for artists.

Jinran Kim – The Last Mattress

The Korean artist Jinran Kim works with objects connected to the history of her home-county Korea, creating a  sincere and thoughtful atmosphere. The mattress is the place where the home is, where the weight and physical presence of the body can still be felt long after the persons ceased to exist. The work is giving the historical figures she used in her work a very human face and plays with the personal histories of them.

The exhibition will run until October 23rd
